The story:

Haymaker. When we first saw this label, we thought nothing of it. Then we realised after some late night researching, that it was from the coveted Izod and Lacoste brand which began in the 1940s!

According to the Vintage Fashion Guild:

"Haymaker was a sportswear label that was a division of the David Crystal company. The chairman of the board at David Crystal was Vin Draddy, who was himself an avid golfer and sportsman.

The Haymaker label is most often found on the company’s famous polo shirts and dresses, and the item is often decorated with a crocodile on the chest (see the other navy blue 1960s pullover sweater we have in the shop!). This is because of the company’s association with Lacoste, the French maker of the crocodile shirt."

We are just super stoked to find one in such American Pie red/white/blue and with such gorgeous stripes! If you look closely, you will see how the stripes cleverly broaden at the waist area to give it a slimming effect! ;)

*Only tiny blip - Someone may have thought it a little long for her liking and has cut it short, but has stuck it with a white bias tape to prevent any fraying. The fact that the tape has lasted this long and even through our thorough scrubbing/washing, that must be SOME super bias tape! :D You could also bring it to the seamstress to have it professionally hemmed but we think it looks just fine like that.

Pinned?: No.

Measurements:
All measurements are taken with the garment laid flat.
Please DOUBLE the measurements provided to get the approximate circumference measurements.
Alternatively, you can take a piece of your own clothing, lay it flat, measure it and make a comparison.

Approx. Size: S - M  (Sized a vintage 6)

Shoulders:  15in

Bust: 16 - 18.5in across (Knit material so there is a slight stretch)

Total Length: 35.5in

Armhole: 8in

Material:  100% Orlon Acrylic
Origin:  USA
Tag: Haymaker
Lining: Unlined.
Transparency:  Seems opaque but as with most vintage garments, a slip will help to keep things decent ;)
Condition: Very good. The hem seems to have been cut and someone has used a white bias tape to keep everything in place. It seems to have help up super well though! Considering the number of years it lasted :D
